Manchester United v Arsenal

On the 29th of August, Manchester United will host Arsenal in their first game against each other this season. These two teams have an age old rivalry that adds some spice to all of their encounters, and this match will be no different. This game is definitely going to be a close match, especially since the two teams are so evenly matched. In the past, of the 158 matches that they have played against each other, Manchester United has won 63, the teams have drawn 38 and Arsenal has won 57. The record however, is not so much in Arsenalís favour when it comes to matches played at Old Trafford. Here they have won only 14 out of 79 games, with the home team winning 44 matches. This factor gives Manchester United an advantage over the visitors. The last time these two teams faced each other, the game ended in a draw and Manchester United went on to win the Premier League.

The Betting odds for this game are mainly in favour of a home team win. William Hill is offering 1.84 for the home team, 3.25 for a draw and 4.8 for an Arsenal win. Bet365 is offering 1.83, 3.4 and 4.5 for a Manchester United win, a draw and an Arsenal win respectively. The other odds are a bit more even with Betclick offering odds of 110, 230 and 240 for a Man-U win, draw and an Arsenal win. 118 for Man-U, 213 for a draw and 235 for Arsenal are what is being offered by Centre Bet.

Manchester United have won the Premiership three years in a row, besides playing at home, which makes them definite favorites to win the game right now. They were successful in their first game against Birmingham, although they are still 9th in the table due to goal difference. The loss of Carlos Tevez and Christiano Ronaldo will weight heavily on the team and they will most definitely find it difficult to replace them, but their other members seem to be clicking well together under the able guidance of Sir Alex. Manchester Unitedís formation will most probably be the conventional 4-4-2 formation. The strike team of Berbatov and Rooney will be relied on heavily during the game against Arsenal. The Manchester United defense in Rio Ferdinand and Vidic will also be crucial factors in this game. Having the home advantage will definitely work in Man Unitedís favour, and they will be looking to capitalize on it.

The visiting team, Arsenal, has been having a good run so far this season with a 6-1 victory over Everton. They are currently second on the table, having played fewer games than the current leaders, Chelsea. This would have definitely boosted their confidence and the Gunners will be looking to win as many games as they can in the start of the season and thereby gain a huge advantage early on in the season. Arsenal will also be eager to win this game in order to gain a huge psychological advantage over the Manchester United by beating them at their home ground. So far the key players for Arsenal have been their captain Fabregas, striker Van Persie and the Russian support striker Arshavin. These players have been instrumental in Arsenalís highly attack based strategy. Even their new signing, Vermaelen seems to have settled in very well, and has become very comfortable with the team and the other players. Although Arsenalís manager, Arsene Wenger, is not as experienced as Sir Alex, he will most definitely be looking to guide his team to victory against the home side.
